Civic and Peace Education

Since 2013, Mote Oo Education has been creating civic and peace education resources for Myanmar adult learners. Our approach to civic and peace education materials is reflective of our approach to all of our materials: presenting key concepts and facts to the reader, without any biases or prejudices for or against any actors or institutions. The hope, in doing this, is that all readers can form their own opinions through thinking critically about the topics that they encounter.

The civics suite of textbooks comprises four resources – Active Citizenship, Democracy, Politics and (most recently) Federalism Basics.

The peace suite is a two-volume book, focusing on conflict (Unit 1) and peace (Unit 2). A shorter volume, Conflict and Peace: An Introduction is also available.

As with other Mote Oo Education books, there is a focus on demonstrating understanding of and discussing concepts as well as practising important skills. The civic and peace education books also encourage learners to reflect upon their learning and their values.
